Uni-Pixel, a maker of films for the touchscreen and flexible electronics markets, plans to join forces with General Interface Solution, a Taiwan-based, subsidiary of Foxconn, it said on Wednesday.
General Interface Solution is a billion-dollar provider of integrated touch displays in the mobile phone, portable PC, laptop and tablet markets to global customers including major computer and smart phone makers, Uni-Pixel said. The companies intend to jointly work on a strategic manufacturing project that will initially extend over three years and which may be renewed by mutual agreement. A definitive agreement is expected to be signed between the companies in the coming weeks.
The two companies are also considering entering into a separate development project for foldable, flexible displays, according to the statement. Uni-Pixel shares rose more than 12% in early trading to the highest since mid-November.
